God of War Save File Location

Here's exactly where the God of War (2018) PC port keeps your saves, how to open the folder, and how to back them up before modding.

Save file locations

Windows (Steam, cloud on)
%USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\God of War

Full path: C:\Users\<YourName>\Saved Games\God of War\<Steam3AccountID>\ . Saves use the .sav extension inside a folder named with your Steam3 account ID.

Windows (cloud off / fallback)
%LOCALAPPDATA%\GodOfWar\Saved\SaveGames

If Steam Cloud sync is disabled, saves can instead sit at C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\GodOfWar\Saved\SaveGames\ (or the Roaming equivalent).

PlayStation 5 / PS4
Settings > Saved Data and Game/App Settings > Saved Data

Console saves are sealed and can't be copied as raw files. Back them up to PS Plus cloud or a USB drive from this menu.

Cloud saves

On PC, God of War uses Steam Cloud, so your .sav follows your Steam account across machines. If a cloud and local save conflict after offline play, keep the newer copy so you don't lose progress.

How to open the save folder

  1. Press Win + R to open the Run box.
  2. Type %userprofile%\Saved Games and press Enter.
  3. Open God of War, then the folder named with your Steam3 account ID.
  4. Copy the whole save folder somewhere safe before editing, modding, or moving PCs.
