Full path: C:\Users\<YourName>\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save . Each character is a _<Name> subfolder containing player.gdc. This is the default location when Steam Cloud saving is off in the game's options.

If you enabled 'Cloud Saving' inside Grim Dawn's options, the active copy moves under Steam userdata (219990 is the Grim Dawn app id). Check here if the Documents\My Games copy looks stale.

Cloud saves
Grim Dawn's cloud saving is a toggle in the game options. With it OFF, saves live in Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save; with it ON, the working copy is in Steam\userdata\<SteamID>\219990\remote\save. Don't switch the toggle mid-playthrough without backing up first, or characters can appear to vanish.
How to open the save folder
- Press Win + R to open the Run box.
- Type %userprofile%\Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save and press Enter.
- Open the _<Character> folder to find player.gdc.
- If it's empty and you turned on Cloud Saving, check Steam\userdata\<SteamID>\219990\remote\save instead.
Save problems & fixes
Grim Dawn character missing after toggling Cloud Saving
Look in the other location: Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save (cloud off) vs Steam\userdata\<SteamID>\219990\remote\save (cloud on). Copy the _<Character> folder from where it exists into the active one.
Saves missing on a new PC
With cloud saving on, sign into the same Steam account and let it sync before launching. With it off, manually copy Documents\My Games\Grim Dawn\save across (GOG copies are local only).
