Monster Hunter World Save Editor โ Zenny, Charms & Decorations
Last verified: 2026-10-01
Steam\userdata\<SteamID3>\582010\remote\SAVEDATA1000
On PC, Monster Hunter: World keeps all three character slots in one file, SAVEDATA1000, in Steam\userdata\<SteamID3>\582010\remote (there is a SAVEDATA1000.bak backup beside it). The file is not plain text, so you use a save editor rather than Notepad. The most-used route is the community MHWI Save Editor (open-source, GitHub/Nexus) which opens SAVEDATA1000, lets you edit zenny, research points, hunter/master rank, item box counts and the decoration list, and exports/imports decorations. For charm edits the format is a .ch_dat charm structure that tools like MHW Editor expose with hex fields โ equipment slot, skill IDs, rarity and gem slots. Because MHW is 'quick mode' only, most value edits (zenny, item counts) are safest done through a maintained Cheat Engine table on the live game, which never rewrites the file; you then save in-game. The big gotcha is Iceborne: the expansion extended the save layout, so an editor or table must match whether you are on base MHW or MHW: Iceborne or it will misread offsets.
Monster Hunter: World stores your hunter in a single SAVEDATA1000 file (plus a backup) inside your Steam userdata folder โ it is not loose JSON, so a dedicated editor is the safe route rather than a text editor.
What you can edit and which tag to change
| What it changes | XML tag | Example value | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zenny | currency value |
Set zenny to 9,999,999 |
The single most-edited value. A Cheat Engine table changes it live with zero file risk; the MHWI Save Editor can also set it directly in SAVEDATA1000. |
| Research points | currency value |
+500,000 research points |
Used for upgrades and loadout mantles. Same handling as zenny โ editable in the save file or live via a table. |
| Charms (.ch_dat) | charm hex structure |
Craft a 3-skill charm |
Charm entries carry skill IDs, levels and slot data. Hex-editing them is possible but fiddly; an unknown skill ID is ignored on load, so keep a backup. |
| Decorations / jewels | decoration list entry + count |
Add 5x Attack Jewel 4 |
MHWI Save Editor has a decoration list exporter/importer โ the clean way to add decos without hand-editing counts. |
| Item box / consumables | item ID + count |
Stack mega potions to 99 |
Item IDs must exist for your game version; raising counts past the cap can display oddly. Edit modestly. |
| Hunter / Master Rank | player progress value |
Set HR 999 |
Forcing rank far above your unlocks can skip story gates โ edit in small steps and test a load before deleting the backup. |
How to edit your Monster Hunter: World save by hand
- Fully quit Monster Hunter: World and pause Steam Cloud (Steam -> MHW -> Properties -> turn off Cloud) so the cloud copy doesn't overwrite your edit.
- Open Steam\userdata\<SteamID3>\582010\remote and copy SAVEDATA1000 (and SAVEDATA1000.bak) somewhere safe as a backup.
- For zenny / research points / item counts: run a maintained Cheat Engine table on the live game, apply the value, then Save in-game so nothing in the file is rewritten by hand.
- For decorations / charms / rank: open SAVEDATA1000 in the MHWI Save Editor (match base vs Iceborne), make the edit, and let the tool re-write the file.
- Relaunch and load the slot. If an edited save won't load, restore SAVEDATA1000 from your backup - the original is untouched.
- Only after a clean load should you re-enable Steam Cloud.
Prefer a save editor instead of raw XML?
There is no official Monster Hunter: World save editor; everything is community-made. Because the game only ever uses 'quick mode', a Cheat Engine table is both easier and safer for currency and item edits than touching SAVEDATA1000 directly. Reserve the file editor for decorations and charms a table can't reach, and always keep the .bak.
Mistakes that corrupt the save
- All three character slots live in ONE file (SAVEDATA1000) - a bad edit can affect the whole file, so back up before every change.
- Iceborne extended the save layout; an editor/table built for base MHW will misread an Iceborne save (and vice-versa).
- Steam Cloud restores the pre-edit save if you don't disable it - the usual 'my edit reverted' cause.
- Charm .ch_dat edits with unknown skill IDs are silently dropped on load - verify in-game before trusting the edit.
- A game update can shift offsets; use a tool/table version matching your current build or edits fail to load.

FAQ
Where is the Monster Hunter World save file on PC?
It's the SAVEDATA1000 file in Steam\userdata\<SteamID3>\582010\remote, with a SAVEDATA1000.bak backup beside it. All three slots are stored in that one file.
Can I open SAVEDATA1000 in Notepad?
No - it's a binary save, not text. Use the community MHWI Save Editor for zenny, decorations and charms, or edit currency live with a Cheat Engine table.
What's the safest way to add zenny or research points?
A maintained Cheat Engine table: it changes the value in the running game's memory, then you save normally, so SAVEDATA1000 is never rewritten by hand.
Why does my editor misread an Iceborne save?
Iceborne extended the save layout. Use an editor/table build that matches whether you're on base Monster Hunter: World or the Iceborne expansion, or the offsets won't line up.
