Save file locations

Full path: C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\UNDERTALE\ . file0 holds your progress; undertale.ini stores flags. AppData is hidden by default, so use the Run box below.

The Mac build stores the same file0 / undertale.ini under Library/Application Support.

Console saves are sealed and can't be copied as raw files. Back them up to PS Plus cloud or a USB drive from this menu.
System Settings › Data Management › Save Data Cloud
Switch save data stays inside the system storage and can only be backed up via Save Data Cloud (Switch Online), not copied as loose files.
Cloud saves
Undertale on Steam uses Steam Cloud, but the live save it reads is the local %LOCALAPPDATA%\UNDERTALE\file0. Because the game leans on this exact folder (not the Documents area), back up file0 and undertale.ini together — undertale.ini stores story flags file0 alone doesn't.
How to open the save folder
- Press Win + R to open the Run box.
- Type %localappdata%\UNDERTALE and press Enter.
- Copy file0 (and file8, file9, undertale.ini) somewhere safe.
- To restore, paste those files back into %localappdata%\UNDERTALE.
Save problems & fixes
Undertale save won't load or reset unexpectedly
Restore your backed-up file0 and undertale.ini into %LOCALAPPDATA%\UNDERTALE. If only undertale.ini is present, story flags survive but the room/progress in file0 was lost — replace both from the same backup.
Undertale save didn't carry to a new PC
Copy file0 and undertale.ini from the old PC's %LOCALAPPDATA%\UNDERTALE into the same folder on the new one, or let Steam Cloud sync before you start a new game so it doesn't overwrite.
