Avowed Save File Location
Here's exactly where Avowed keeps your save on PC and Xbox, where the config file lives, and how to back it up before you tweak settings or move machines.
Save file locations
C:\Users\<YourName>\Saved Games\Avowed\
This location is identical for the Steam and Battle.net clients. Copy the whole Avowed folder to back up all slots.

Not a save, but useful: Engine.ini and other settings live here. Full path: C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Alabama\Saved\Config\Windows\ ('Alabama' is Avowed's engine codename).

Xbox and Game Pass saves sync automatically to the cloud with your account; there's no plain save file on disk to copy.
Cloud saves
On PC, Avowed uses cloud saves (Steam Cloud on Steam), so your progress follows your account to other machines. After offline play, if a cloud conflict appears keep the copy with the later timestamp — the older one overwrites newer progress.
How to open the save folder
- Press Win + R to open the Run box.
- Type %userprofile%\Saved Games and press Enter.
- Open the Avowed folder.
- Copy the whole Avowed folder somewhere safe before editing settings or moving PCs.
- For config edits, go to %localappdata%\Alabama\Saved\Config\Windows and open Engine.ini.
Save problems & fixes
Avowed save won't load or is corrupt
Close the game and restore an earlier file from the Saved Games\Avowed folder (back it up first). On Steam, Verify integrity of game files via Properties → Installed Files.
Can't find the Avowed config folder
AppData is hidden by default — paste C:\Users\<YourName>\AppData\Local\Alabama\Saved\Config\Windows straight into the File Explorer address bar; hidden folders open fine from a direct path.
Progress rolled back after a cloud conflict
Keep the save with the LATER timestamp. If unsure, disable Steam Cloud for Avowed, back up the Saved Games\Avowed folder, then re-enable and let it sync.
