On Steam Deck the save lives inside the game's Proton prefix, not in your Linux home. AppID 1086940. Proton always names the Windows user 'steamuser' (never your Linux username). Each slot is a folder with a .lsv save file. If the game is installed on a microSD card, look under that card's steamapps/compatdata/ instead. Enable 'View › Show Hidden Files' in the Dolphin file manager to see the folder.

Cloud saves
On PC, Baldur's Gate 3 uses cloud saves through Steam and GOG. Larian also has an in-game cross-save cloud that lets you continue between PC and console when logged into a Larian account.
Cloud save conflict & platform recovery
Baldur's Gate 3 on PC has two clouds fighting over one folder: Steam/GOG cloud AND Larian's in-game cross-save. If you play on a second PC or on console with a Larian account, the two can disagree and load an older save. Each save is its own subfolder under Story, so a bad sync silently reverts hours of progress. Back up the local Story folder before you let anything sync.
- Fully exit BG3 and the Larian launcher so neither cloud re-syncs while you work.
- Back up the local saves first: press Win+R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Larian Studios\Baldur's Gate 3\PlayerProfiles\Public\Savegames and copy the whole Story folder somewhere safe.
- Identify the newest save: inside Story, each save subfolder has a .lsv file — sort by modified date; the most recent .lsv is your real latest progress (the in-game load screen also shows the timestamp).

- PS5/Xbox saves are sealed — they can only be moved via PS Plus cloud / Xbox cloud or the Larian cross-save, not as raw files; keep the device with your latest story online last so it wins the sync.
