Save file locations
Documents\Electronic Arts\Dead Space
Full path: C:\Users\<YourName>\Documents\Electronic Arts\Dead Space\. Save files are named ds_slot_00.deadspacesaved, ds_slot_01.deadspacesaved, etc. — one per save slot. This is the original 2008 game (Steam app 17470), not the 2023 remake.
Steam Cloud / EA app cloud
The 2023 Remake is a different game and stores saves through Steam Cloud or the EA app cloud, syncing automatically. If you are looking for remake saves, they are not in the Electronic Arts\Dead Space folder above.
Console saved-data menu
Console saves are sealed and cannot be copied as raw files. Back them up to console cloud or a USB drive from the system saved-data menu.
Cloud saves
The original Dead Space (2008) does NOT support Steam Cloud — this is the single most common reason people lose progress. Because saves live only in Documents\Electronic Arts\Dead Space on that one PC, reinstalling, verifying files, or switching computers will not carry them over automatically. Always copy the folder manually. (The 2023 Remake, by contrast, does sync via cloud.)
How to open the save folder
- Press Win + R to open the Run box.
- Type %userprofile%\Documents\Electronic Arts and press Enter.
- Open the Dead Space folder.
- Your saves are the ds_slot_0X.deadspacesaved files — copy the whole folder somewhere safe.
- Do this before reinstalling or moving PCs, because there is no Steam Cloud backup.

Does the original Dead Space use Steam Cloud?

Why did my Dead Space saves disappear after reinstalling?
Because there is no cloud backup, reinstalling or moving to a new PC leaves the Documents\Electronic Arts\Dead Space folder empty unless you copied it first. Restore your ds_slot files from a manual backup.
Is this the same as Dead Space Remake saves?
