How to Transfer Your The Sims 4 Save to a New PC
Switching computers? Here's exactly which The Sims 4 save files to copy, where they live, and how to make sure your progress loads on the new PC.
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves
Copy every Slot_*.save file (and its .ver0/.ver1 backups) from the saves folder to the same path on the new PC.
Where the files live: see the full The Sims 4 save file location guide for every platform path (PS5, Xbox, Steam Cloud).
How to transfer your The Sims 4 save to a new PC
- On the old PC, press Win+R, paste %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves, and press Enter to open the save folder.
- Select everything in that folder and copy it to a USB drive, cloud folder (OneDrive/Google Drive), or network share.
- Install The Sims 4 on the new PC and launch it once, then close it — this creates the empty save folder.
- To keep your households and lots exactly as built, also copy the Tray folder (one level up in The Sims 4). Reinstall the same custom content/mods on the new PC or CC-dependent saves may look broken.
- On the new PC, open the same path (%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves) and paste the copied files in, overwriting if asked.
- Launch the game and confirm your progress loaded before deleting the backup copy.
Does cloud sync move it for you?
No automatic cloud. The Sims 4 (EA app / Steam / Epic) does not sync saves to the cloud, so you must copy the saves folder by hand. Console saves are sealed and cannot be moved to PC.
Common mistakes
- Copying the .save but skipping its numbered .ver backups, losing your fallback.
- Forgetting the Tray folder, so built households/lots don't appear in the gallery.
FAQ
How do I move my The Sims 4 save to a new PC?
Copy the save folder at %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves from the old PC to the exact same path on the new PC, then launch the game. Use a USB drive, cloud storage, or a network share to move the files.
Will The Sims 4 cloud saves transfer automatically?
No automatic cloud. The Sims 4 (EA app / Steam / Epic) does not sync saves to the cloud, so you must copy the saves folder by hand. Console saves are sealed and cannot be moved to PC.
Where is the The Sims 4 save folder on the old PC?
It's at %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves. Paste that into the File Explorer address bar (or Win+R) to open it. See our full location guide for every platform.
Do I need to copy any other files?
Copy the whole save folder, not just one file — some games store settings, backups, or profile subfolders alongside the main save. Copying the entire folder avoids missing anything.
