Grounded Save File Location

Here's exactly where the Steam version of Grounded stores your worlds on PC, how to open the folder, and how to back it up.

The Microsoft Store / Game Pass build stores saves inside protected WindowsApps/Xbox storage you can't open directly — manage them through Xbox Cloud sync instead.

Cloud saves

Grounded uses Steam Cloud (Steam) and Xbox Cloud (Store/Game Pass). If you back up the Steam save manually, let Steam Cloud finish syncing before you copy or restore so a later sync doesn't overwrite your file.

How to open the save folder

  1. Press Win + E to open File Explorer.
  2. Paste %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Grounded into the address bar and press Enter.
  3. Copy the whole Grounded folder somewhere safe before editing, modding, or moving PCs.

Save problems & fixes

Grounded save is missing after reinstall

Check that Steam Cloud finished downloading before you launched — right-click the game → Properties → confirm Steam Cloud is enabled, then restart Steam so it pulls the latest save.

Grounded world won't load / shows corrupt

Grounded writes a backup copy next to the main save; close the game, restore the backup file inside the numbered world folder, then reopen. On Steam also verify integrity of game files.
